Orbicular Jasper also known as Ocean Jasper is often presented in the form of a polished sphere for artifact and jewelry effects. This form of jasper is found only near the ocean on the North coast of Madagascar. The distinct spiral formations are micro-crystallized quartz colored by oxides and impurities. These spherical inclusions arise from the aggregation of slender crystals which form a seed for the shape thus alluding to orbs. Orbicular Jasper exhibits triboluminescence when impacted releasing a hottish orange or yellow light streak.
